Matt Brown
Matt is one of the few people on the JDH team who is expert-level across every service we offer: roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters, and attic insulation. Before JDH he ran his own residential insurance-claims practice for five and a half years. He inspects homes forensically, not commercially.
From Insurance Claims to Southern Maryland Driveways.
Matt was born in La Plata, grew up in Waldorf, and moved to St. Mary's County in 2016. He works in the same corner of Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia he has spent his whole life in.
Before JDH, Matt spent about five and a half years as an independent insurance adjuster. He ran his own claims practice handling residential property losses for Erie Insurance, State Farm, Liberty Mutual, and USAA. Wind damage, hail damage, water damage, fire damage. He inspected damaged homes for a living and wrote the reports insurance companies used to settle claims.
He moved into remodeling because he wanted a career that did not depend on the weather to bring work through the door. He has been working in residential property inspection and home remodeling since late 2019, and a little over two years of that has been on the JDH team as a Design Specialist.
Matt spends most days on the road. He sees the miles as part of the job. He says the most rewarding part is being the person who actually helps a family solve something wrong with their home.
Forensic Inspection, Not a Sales Pitch.
Matt does not walk in and quote a replacement. Every inspection starts with the same question: does this problem actually need what people assume it needs? He is looking for the cause, not just the symptom, and he uses professional diagnostic equipment to find it. This is the same forensic approach that shapes JDH's whole inspection process.
"If I wouldn't recommend it for my own mom's house, I'm not going to recommend it for yours. At the end of the day, I have to sleep at night, and my reputation means everything to me. My job isn't to sell you something. It's to give you the solution that's right for your home." — Matt Brown, Senior Design Specialist
Matt also evaluates age, deterioration, cracking, structural condition, and overall system health before making a call. The goal is always the same: know whether repair or replacement is actually necessary before saying either word out loud.
Measure moisture content inside window and door frames and sills. Confirm whether a stain is a live leak or a healed old one before recommending replacement.
Fiber-optic camera to inspect wall cavities, framing behind trim, and other concealed areas without cutting into the home.
Sees temperature differences the eye cannot. Reveals solar heat gain, energy loss, missing insulation, and hidden water paths behind walls and ceilings.
Traces drafts back to their source. Shows exactly which gap around a window, door, or attic penetration is letting outside air into the home.
One Person, Six Systems.
Most Design Specialists specialize in one trade. Matt is one of the few on the JDH team with expert-level command of all six exterior systems the company installs. He evaluates them together, the way they actually meet on a real house.
Roofing. Siding. Windows. Doors. Gutters. Attic insulation. When a homeowner is looking at more than one system at once (which is nearly every project), Matt can inspect and design the whole scope in a single visit instead of scheduling three trade specialists on three different days.
Matt is also the person who builds the professional home renderings homeowners see before construction begins. He mocks up the actual house with the actual materials and colors, so the customer sees what the finished exterior will look like on their real home before a single order is placed. It is one of his favorite parts of the job.
