Jim Dodson
A father, husband, and business owner: in that order. Jim has spent his entire life in construction. In 2016 he took over the family company his father founded as Dodson Brothers Construction in 1986, moved it to our Southern MD home base, and renamed it for his three children: J.J., Dallas, and Hayden. JDH.
Three Generations of Dodsons. Three Jim Dodsons.
The company started in 1986, when Jim Dodson Sr. founded Dodson Brothers Construction in Clinton, Maryland: a master carpenter going to work for himself with his brothers. Jim grew up on those jobsites. By the time he was old enough to be useful, he was already on the truck.
After college and a Construction Management degree, Jim spent years in corporate operations at ThyssenKrupp Elevator: the place that taught him how serious organizations document quality, schedule supply chains, and run real safety programs. He learned a different vocabulary for the same trade.
In 2016 three things happened at once. He'd hit the point where the next step in his career meant traveling the world. He and his wife wanted to start a family. And his dad was ready to retire. So Jim came home, took over the company, restructured it from the ground up, and moved its base of operations to Calvert County.
He renamed it twice over. The legal entity became J.D. Hayden, LLC: J.D. for his father, Hayden for his daughter. The brand became JDH Remodeling: the initials of his three children, J.J., Dallas, and Hayden. The company name carries two generations of family at once.
The PCC Method: Built for the Integrity Hole.
Jim's inspection method has a name: PCC, for Problem, Cause, Consequence. Customers see it as Digital Analysis: drone imagery, FLIR thermal scans, attic walks, and documented findings instead of pressure-based selling. It came out of training with Rodney Webb and Lenny Scarola, plus a lifetime of working alongside his father in the trade.
"Look: we know we're starting from a hole. Roofers have a reputation. Salesmen have a reputation. Put them together and we're double scum bags before we knock on your door. So we built the inspection process to earn trust with evidence, not pressure." — Jim Dodson, Owner/Operator
Every JDH inspection lands the same way: a documented set of findings the homeowner keeps. If the roof can be repaired, we say so. If it can't, we show why: photos, thermal readings, attic conditions, manufacturer guidance. The homeowner makes the call with the same information Jim has.
Jim personally reviews findings on every project JDH takes on. That's the part the title doesn't capture. He's the operator who's still in the work — exactly what you see in the photo at the top of this page.
Lenny Scarola trained Jim on the PCC Method. In 2026, Owens Corning invited Jim to the Platinum Conference to speak on Build Your Retail Model. Lenny moderated the panel.
