Insulation Warranty Coverage in Maryland & Virginia
Every JDH Attic Insulation Install: 5-Year Transferable Workmanship Warranty
If it's an installation issue on your attic insulation, JDH covers it. The specifics are insulation-specific (coverage uniformity, achieved R-value at install, soffit baffle installation, protection of attic infrastructure, recessed-light cover protection, attic-access detail), but if the cause traces back to how we installed the insulation, we fix it at no charge for 5 years from the install date.
Owens Corning + Cellulose Material Coverage
JDH installs blown insulation in attics only - two product options: Owens Corning PINK fiberglass blown (default) or cellulose (manufacturer varies by job; install paperwork documents the specific product). Manufacturer material warranties apply to the insulation product itself. JDH's 5-year workmanship covers the install work, R-value achievement, and baffle installation.

Side-by-Side Insulation Warranty Coverage
Note: insulation warranties are primarily about installation workmanship - manufacturer material warranties are less central than in roofing/siding/windows. JDH's 5-year workmanship is the primary coverage; energy savings are deliberately not warranted.

Common Insulation Warranty Questions
What R-value does JDH install? +
JDH's default target is R-49 for the Maryland/Virginia climate zone, which meets or exceeds current code recommendations for attic insulation in our service area. Customer-selected options are R-38 (lower, sometimes chosen for budget or specific assembly limitations) or R-60 (premium upgrade for max performance). Settled depth at install is measured per the manufacturer's published settled-depth-per-R-value tables (Owens Corning for PINK fiberglass blown; the specific cellulose manufacturer's tables when cellulose is elected). The target R-value is documented in your contract and verified at install.
Does JDH warranty energy bill savings? +
No - this is a deliberate transparency point. JDH does not warranty energy bill savings or specific cost reductions. Actual energy savings depend on the entire home envelope (windows, doors, air infiltration, HVAC efficiency, occupant behavior, weather, utility rates) - factors outside JDH's control. JDH warranties the installation workmanship (coverage uniformity, achieved R-value at install, soffit baffle installation, protection of attic infrastructure). Most insulation contractors that promise energy savings either heavily caveat the promise in fine print or rely on inputs the homeowner has to provide and verify - we just don't make the promise.
How long is JDH's insulation workmanship warranty? +
5 years from the install completion date, fully transferable to a new homeowner if you sell. The clock starts the last day JDH's crew performed work on the project. Industry typical for insulation installs is 1 to 2 years non-transferable; JDH's 5-year transferable in-house warranty is among the strongest insulation workmanship terms a Maryland or Virginia contractor offers. If JDH performs a covered repair during the 5-year window, that repair is covered for the remainder of the original window (the clock does not restart).
What does "achieved R-value at install" mean? +
Achieved R-value at install is the R-value of the installed insulation measured at install, against the contracted target. JDH installs to achieve the agreed R-value at settled depth per the manufacturer's published settled-depth-per-R-value tables. We document the installed depth at the job and the corresponding R-value. Settling over time within manufacturer-published norms is normal material behavior, not workmanship - manufacturers publish settled-vs-initial-depth tables for exactly this reason. JDH installs to achieve target R at settled depth, not at fresh-install depth.
Does JDH install spray foam or wall insulation? +
No. JDH's current insulation scope is blown insulation in attics only - no walls, no crawlspaces, no rim joists, no spray foam. Two attic-blown product options: Owens Corning PINK fiberglass blown (default) or cellulose (when elected). The scope was deliberately narrowed to the work JDH can execute consistently and warranty cleanly with our in-house crew. For wall or crawlspace insulation, or for spray foam, we'd refer you to a specialist in that scope - we don't take on work outside our warranty-able envelope.
How do I file an insulation warranty claim with JDH? +
Call the JDH office at (443) 241-7356. Jessica Commodore pulls your install file. Send photos or videos (especially attic-floor photos showing the issue) to speed the evaluation. Steve Dean inspects on-site within 2 business days. Steve's evaluation determines the cause: workmanship (coverage gaps, R-value not achieved at install, baffle issues, install damage to attic infrastructure) - JDH covers under the 5-year workmanship warranty; material defect (rare for blown product) - JDH files the manufacturer claim on your behalf. If covered, Jesus performs the repair at no charge - typically a re-blow on the affected area within 7 days of confirmation.
What voids my insulation warranty? +
The most common voiders: third-party work in the attic that displaces or damages JDH's install (HVAC contractor crushing baffles to route ductwork, electrician burying junction boxes, alarm/network installer disturbing the blown product, homeowner storage piled on top of insulation) - though JDH offers a free post-third-party-work inspection to restore coverage; unauthorized modifications to recessed-light covers or baffles installed by JDH; animal/pest damage (squirrels, raccoons, birds nesting). Notably, missed routine maintenance does NOT void the warranty - blown attic insulation is largely maintenance-free anyway. Acts of God (wind, hail, lightning, tree-strike, flood) are excluded but route to insurance.
Does the insulation warranty transfer if I sell my house? +
Yes. JDH's 5-year workmanship warranty transfers in full to a subsequent homeowner for the remainder of the coverage period - no paperwork, no fee. We document the install (R-value, product type, depth at install) in a file the buyer's home inspector can verify. The manufacturer material warranty (Owens Corning PINK or the specific cellulose manufacturer) transfers per the manufacturer's published terms. When you list your home, share the install paperwork with the buyer - the documented R-value and product type are often a positive disclosure during inspection.
