Maryland & Virginia Attic Insulation Contractor: Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas
JDH Remodeling is a licensed Maryland and Virginia attic insulation contractor. Family-owned since 1986, our family-run MD and VA insulation shop installs Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas batt and blown-in attic insulation, perform air sealing on attic-floor penetrations, remove old wet or contaminated insulation, and use FLIR thermal imaging to find heat loss before we quote. Attic insulation runs $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot installed, with a typical 1,500 square foot attic landing $2,250 to $5,250. Every install is backed by Owens Corning's manufacturer warranty plus JDH's 5-year workmanship warranty. MHIC #137491, Virginia Class A #2705192986, 1,400+ Google reviews at 4.9 stars.
How much does attic insulation cost in Maryland?
Attic insulation in Maryland and Virginia runs $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot installed. That price covers Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas blown-in or batt material, air sealing of penetrations at the attic floor, R-value targeted to your home's needs (R-30 to R-60 in MD/VA per ENERGY STAR), bagging and haul-away of removed insulation, and warranty registration. A typical 1,500 square foot attic lands between $2,250 and $5,250 fully installed. Final price depends on R-value target, attic accessibility, existing insulation removal, and whether spray foam (closed-cell or open-cell) is selected for problem cavities. Every JDH install is backed by Owens Corning's manufacturer warranty plus JDH's 5-year workmanship warranty. In-home consultations and FLIR thermal imaging quotes are free.
Attic insulation, air sealing, and removal, done together for actual results
Insulation only works when air leaks are sealed first and the old contaminated material comes out before the new goes in. JDH does insulation right: FLIR thermal scan to find the heat-loss points, air sealing of every penetration at the attic floor, removal of wet or fouled existing insulation, then Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas batt or blown-in to the R-value your Maryland or Virginia home actually needs.
Batt Insulation
Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas batt insulation in walls, floors, and attic joist-bays. Sized to standard stud and joist spacing. The right material when cavities are accessible and a uniform R-value is the goal.
See batt insulation scopeAir Sealing
Foam-seal of every penetration through the attic floor: top plates, can lights, plumbing stacks, electrical chases, HVAC boots. Done before insulation goes in. Stops conditioned air from chimney-stacking through the attic.
Air sealing scopeInsulation Removal
Wet, contaminated, rodent-fouled, or compressed-flat insulation is bagged out before new material goes in. Required by code in many cases when there has been a roof leak or pest intrusion.

About Owens Corning insulationAdd-ons that close the energy-loss loop
Blown-In Attic Insulation
Owens Corning PROPINK L77 loose-fill blown to a uniform depth across the attic floor. The most efficient way to hit R-49 or R-60 in older Maryland homes.
Blown-in optionsSpray Foam
Closed-cell or open-cell spray foam for rim joists, knee walls, sloped ceilings, and cathedral roof decks where batts and blown-in cannot work. Sealed air barrier in one step.

Pre-install FLIR thermal camera scan to map heat loss room-by-room. We show you the cold spots and prioritize the attic areas where insulation will actually move the bill.
Thermal diagnosticsAttic Ventilation
Ridge vents, soffit vents, and gable vents balanced to your attic square footage. Without proper ventilation, new insulation traps moisture and rots the roof deck.
Attic ventilationVapor Barriers
Kraft-faced PINK Fiberglas in heated crawl spaces and below-grade walls. Stops warm-side moisture from condensing in the wall cavity during MD/VA winters.

One insulation brand. Chosen on purpose.
JDH does not carry every insulation on the market. We install Owens Corning, exclusively, because we will not put insulation in your house we would not put in our own. PINK Fiberglas has held the industry R-value standard for 80 years, the formaldehyde-free Pure Safety line is what we use in homes with children or sensitivities, and Owens Corning registers a lifetime limited warranty on the material at install.
PINK Fiberglas batt and PROPINK L77 blown-in are JDH's everyday attic materials. Long fibers hold R-value over decades.

ENERGY STAR insulationWhat happens from your first call to warranty registration
Every JDH insulation project follows the same five-stage process. Click any stage to see what happens, who shows up, and what you should expect.
01 FLIR Thermal Scan & Attic Assessment +
A JDH Design Specialist arrives with a FLIR thermal camera, measures attic square footage, checks current R-value, identifies air-leak points at the attic floor, evaluates existing insulation for compression or contamination, and confirms attic ventilation balance. The thermal scan documents where heat is actually escaping, so the quote targets the right zones.
This visit is free and there is no obligation. If your existing insulation is fine and just needs an air-sealing top-up, we will say so.
02 Fixed-Price Quote & R-Value Plan +
Within a day or two you receive a written, fixed-price quote scoped to your attic: Owens Corning material type (batt, blown-in, or spray foam in specific cavities), R-value target (R-30 to R-60 depending on existing condition and your goal), air sealing scope, existing insulation removal if needed, dust protection, bagging, haul-away, and warranty registration. No surprise change orders.
You finalize the R-value target, material type, and any spray foam upgrades for knee walls or rim joists. Most homeowners decide within a few days.
03 Scheduling & Material Order +
JDH orders Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas to your spec from our local distribution partner. Material lead time is typically a week. Most insulation projects schedule within one to two weeks of approval, faster in shoulder seasons.
04 Install Day +
A JDH crew arrives, masks off the attic access, removes existing insulation if specified, foam-seals every penetration through the attic floor, then blows or installs new Owens Corning insulation to the target depth. We use an attic ruler to verify depth across the entire footprint, not just the access area. A typical 1,500 to 2,500 square foot attic is a one-day install.
We do not subcontract installation. Every crew member is on JDH payroll, in JDH-branded shirts.
05 Final Thermal Scan & Warranty Registration +
Before we leave, JDH runs a final FLIR thermal scan to verify the cold spots are gone, registers the Owens Corning lifetime limited warranty on your behalf, and activates your JDH 5-year workmanship warranty. Documentation goes to you and stays in our system.
If anything is not right after we leave, our satisfaction guarantee puts someone back on site within 2 business days.
Four reasons we win on the diagnosis, not the sales pitch
JDH does not knock doors, does not run high-pressure pitches, and does not sell whole-attic projects when an air-sealing top-up is the right answer. We win on FLIR thermal scans that show what is actually happening, one trusted insulation brand, and three generations of Maryland and Virginia exterior work. Here is what that means for your insulation.
FLIR Thermal Diagnostics
JDH brings a FLIR thermal camera to every insulation quote. The scan maps heat loss room-by-room so the quote targets the zones that actually move the energy bill. Most contractors quote off attic square footage alone.
39 Years, Family-Owned
Founded in 1986. Three generations of the Dodson family. Thousands of Maryland and Virginia exterior projects across Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, Prince George's, St. Mary's, and the Fredericksburg area.
Licensed in Both States
Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986, both verifiable on the state licensing portals. Crews on JDH payroll, never subcontracted.
Air-Seal Before Insulating
Insulation alone does not stop air leakage. JDH foam-seals every penetration through the attic floor before any material goes in. Most contractors skip this step. We do not.

What Maryland and Virginia homeowners say about JDH insulation
"JDH did a full attic insulation job for us. The thermal camera scan up front was eye-opening: they showed us exactly where the cold was coming in. Crew air-sealed the attic floor before blowing in the new insulation. Our HVAC runs noticeably less and the upstairs bedrooms are finally comfortable in winter."
"Called JDH thinking we needed a full insulation replacement. Their inspector said our existing insulation was actually fine, but the air gaps at the top plates were the real problem. They air-sealed for a fraction of what a replacement would have cost. House is tighter and the bill matches."
"After our roof leaked, JDH pulled out the wet insulation, sprayed the rim joists with closed-cell foam, and installed new Owens Corning batts. They explained why each step mattered. Clean, on-time, on-budget. Energy bills dropped immediately."

Insulation Questions Maryland & Virginia Homeowners Ask
How much does an insulation job cost?+
Attic insulation runs $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot installed for a JDH project. That covers Owens Corning PINK Fiberglas blown-in or batt material, air sealing at the attic floor, R-value targeted to your home, bagging and haul-away of removed insulation, and warranty registration. For a typical 1,500 square foot attic, most whole-attic projects land between $2,250 and $5,250.
Where you fall in that range depends on R-value target (R-30 minimum, R-49 to R-60 ideal in MD/VA), accessibility, whether existing insulation needs removal, and whether spray foam is added for problem cavities. See our Maryland insulation cost guide or Virginia insulation cost guide for itemized examples.
How much does it cost to insulate a 1,500 sq ft house?+
For a 1,500 sq ft attic in Maryland or Virginia, expect $2,250 to $5,250 fully installed. The low end is a blown-in top-up over existing insulation; the high end is full removal, air sealing, and new batt or spray foam in problem cavities to R-49 or R-60.
Walls and floors add to the total if those cavities are being insulated too, but most homeowner projects in our service area focus on the attic since it returns the biggest energy savings for the dollar.
What R-value should I insulate to in Maryland?+
Maryland and Virginia are in ENERGY STAR Climate Zone 4. Recommended attic R-value is R-49 to R-60 for new installs. Older homes often have R-13 to R-30 of compressed or settled insulation, well below the modern recommendation.
R-30 is the code-minimum in many MD jurisdictions; R-49 is the practical comfort and energy-savings target. JDH installs to whatever R-value the homeowner specifies, with R-49 recommended as the standard for whole-attic projects.
Can insulation help with allergies?+
Yes, when paired with air sealing. Allergens enter through the same air leaks that drive energy loss: top plates, can lights, plumbing penetrations, and rim joists. Foam-sealing those penetrations before insulating creates a barrier between the outside, attic, and conditioned space.
Owens Corning's PINK Pure Safety line uses a bio-based binder with no added formaldehyde, which is the line JDH installs in homes with children or chemical sensitivity.
What time of year is insulation cheapest?+
Fall (September to November) is typically the most competitive time to install insulation. Summer demand for AC-driven projects winds down, winter demand for heating savings has not yet peaked, and contractor schedules open up.
That said, attic insulation is a year-round JDH service and material pricing does not swing much seasonally. The real benefit of an off-peak install is scheduling flexibility, not deep discounts. Do not put off insulating a drafty attic for the sake of a season.
Does JDH remove old insulation?+
Yes. Insulation removal is one of our core services. We bag and haul wet, contaminated, rodent-fouled, or compressed-flat insulation before new material goes in. This is required in many cases when there has been a roof leak or pest intrusion, and skipping it leads to mold trapped under the new insulation.
Removal pricing is scoped at consultation based on attic accessibility and volume. See insulation removal scope for details.
What insulation brand does JDH install?+
JDH installs Owens Corning insulation, exclusively. PINK Fiberglas batt and PROPINK L77 blown-in are our everyday materials, and PINK Pure Safety is the formaldehyde-free option for sensitive households. We carry one brand on purpose: our crews master a single product line, and every cavity on your house carries the same lifetime limited warranty from the same manufacturer.
For closed-cell and open-cell spray foam in problem cavities (rim joists, knee walls, cathedral ceilings), we use industry-standard spray foam products. See our Owens Corning page for the full lineup.
Is batt or blown-in better for an attic?+
For most Maryland and Virginia attics, blown-in PROPINK L77 is the better choice. It fills irregular gaps, contours over joists and trusses, and reaches a uniform depth across the entire footprint. Batt insulation works well in regular joist-bay attics with no irregularities and in walls.
JDH installs both, and the Design Specialist picks based on your attic's framing pattern, accessibility, and R-value goal. Spray foam on rim joists or knee walls often gets paired with attic blown-in for the most complete envelope.
How long does attic insulation take to install?+
A typical 1,500 to 2,500 square foot attic is a one-day install. The crew arrives in the morning, masks off the access, removes existing insulation if scoped, foam-seals every penetration at the attic floor, blows or installs new Owens Corning material to the target depth, and runs a final thermal scan before leaving.
Larger or more complex projects with extensive removal, knee-wall spray foam, or below-grade insulation can run a second day. We confirm the timeline at the quote.
What does the JDH insulation warranty cover?+
Every Owens Corning insulation product JDH installs carries Owens Corning's lifetime limited warranty against material defects and loss of R-value over time. JDH registers the warranty on your behalf at install.
On top of the manufacturer warranty, JDH backs the installation with a 5-year workmanship warranty covering air-sealing failures, depth or coverage gaps, and any installation-traced cold spots that show up on a follow-up thermal scan. Both warranties transfer to one subsequent homeowner.
Do you offer financing for insulation?+
Yes. JDH partners with Foundation Finance, Service Finance, Hearth, and Synchrony for insulation financing, with same-day pre-qualification and no impact to your credit score during the soft-pull check. Promotional and deferred-interest options are available for qualified Maryland and Virginia homeowners.
Financing makes it practical to do a whole-attic insulation project at once, or to pair insulation with new roofing, siding, or windows on a single plan. See insulation financing options for terms and lender details.
Are you licensed in both Maryland and Virginia?+
Yes. JDH carries Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986. Both are verifiable on the state licensing portals: the Maryland DLLR portal for MHIC and the Virginia DPOR portal for Class A. We have been licensed and family-owned since 1986.
