Three Generations. One Family Name. Your Home's Future.
JDH Remodeling was founded in 1986 by Jim Dodson Sr. and his brother Bill Dodson as Dodson Brothers Construction in Clinton, Maryland. Jim Dodson is the third-generation owner, leading the company since 2016 after a corporate career at ThyssenKrupp Elevator and a Construction Management degree. The company is named for Jim's three children: J.J., Dallas, and Hayden. Headquartered in St. Leonard, MD, JDH installs roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters, and insulation across Maryland and Virginia from our main shop serving MD and Virginia.
Jim Sr. and his brother Bill start Dodson Brothers Construction.
JDH was originally founded in 1986 by Jim Dodson Sr. and his brother Bill Dodson as Dodson Brothers Construction in Clinton, Maryland. The two brothers built it as a residential trades operation on what they had learned coming up in the construction business: do honest work, stand behind it, and treat the homeowner like you'd want your own family treated.
Jim Sr. ran the company through its first three decades. He retired and moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, but the standard the brothers set is the one we still operate on today.

Jim takes the helm and moves operations home.
Jim Dodson is the third-generation owner. He took over from his father in 2016 after a decade in corporate operations at ThyssenKrupp Elevator and a Construction Management degree before that. Coming back to the family business was a deliberate choice: he wanted to build the kind of contractor he wished had shown up at his own home.
One of his first moves was restructuring the company and relocating headquarters to St. Leonard, Maryland, closer to the Southern Maryland and Northern Virginia communities JDH serves every day. He hired credentialed inspectors, locked the brand portfolio to one vetted manufacturer per trade, and built the PCC Method (Problem, Cause, Consequence) as the standard every JDH inspection runs on.

JDH is for Jim's three kids.
When Jim restructured the company, he renamed it for his three children: J.J., Dallas, and Hayden, the next generation of the family business. The legal entity behind JDH is J.D. Hayden, LLC, honoring Jim's father Jim Dodson and Jim's daughter Hayden. The name is on every truck, every contract, every install. It's not a slogan. It's accountability spelled out three letters at a time.
Why we diagnose before we quote.
When Jim came back to the family business, he kept running into the same conversation. Homeowners would tell him about the last roofer they had out: walked the roof, came down, wrote a number. No findings shared. No reasoning given. Just a price and a pitch.
"Homeowners hire roofers expecting to be sold something. I'd rather be the one who tells you the truth, even when the truth is 'you have two more good years on this roof.'"
The PCC Method was adapted from industry training and refined through three generations of installs at JDH. It asks three questions about every issue we find on your roof or exterior: what we're seeing (Problem), why it's happening (Cause), and what happens if you do nothing about it (Consequence). The customer-facing version of the PCC report is called your Digital Analysis. It's the framework every JDH inspection has run on since 2016, and it's the reason our crews have to know fewer SKUs, our installs are more consistent, and our warranty claims have stayed low.

Jim made a deliberate call: install one vetted brand per trade and earn the top-tier installer certification with each. That unlocks the longest warranty terms each manufacturer offers, limits how many SKUs our crews need to know, and makes our installs visually + structurally consistent across hundreds of jobs a year.

My kids' names are on the truck.
Every JDH truck that rolls into your driveway carries the initials of Jim's three children. So does every contract. So does every warranty registration. When Jim chose to name the company for J.J., Dallas, and Hayden, he was making a promise that the work happens under a name his family stands behind.
That's the difference between a contractor and a family business. We're not optimizing for the next job. We're building a company we want our kids to inherit.
