Every JDH Question, in One Place
This is the JDH Remodeling FAQ hub. Twelve company-level questions get the full answer below (warranty, financing, who shows up, the PCC Method, insurance claims). For trade-specific questions, jump to the deep-dive FAQ for roofing, siding, windows, doors, gutters, or insulation, each one has 30+ answered questions sourced from real homeowner conversations.
Two ways to use this page
Most homeowners arrive with one of two questions. "How does JDH actually work?" (warranty, financing, who shows up, scheduling, the PCC Method), those answers live in the company FAQ section below. "What about my specific project?" (roofing cost, siding lifespan, window ratings, gutter sizing), those answers live in the trade-specific FAQ hubs further down. Each trade hub carries 30+ answered questions sourced from real customer conversations across Maryland and Virginia.
About JDH Remodeling
Twelve questions about how JDH operates: who we are, what we install, how we inspect, how we warranty, how we get paid.
How long has JDH Remodeling been in business? +
JDH was founded in 1986 by Jim's father, Jim Sr. Jim is the third-generation owner, continuing three generations of Dodsons in the construction trades: grandfather, then dad (who founded JDH), now Jim. The name JDH comes from Jim's three children: J.J., Dallas, and Hayden, the next generation of the family business.
What states does JDH serve? +
Maryland and Virginia. JDH is licensed in both: MHIC #137491 (Maryland Home Improvement Commission) and VA Class A #2705192986 (Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation). Headquartered in St. Leonard, Maryland, with service coverage across Calvert, Charles, St. Mary's, Anne Arundel, and Prince George's counties in MD plus Stafford, Spotsylvania, King George, Prince William, and the City of Fredericksburg in VA. See our service areas page for the full list.
Who actually shows up to my house: JDH employees or subcontractors? +
JDH employees. Your inspector is Brian McClees (Inspector Manager) or one of the four named Design Specialists: Joey Walzel, Tom Raley, Sam Carts, or Matt Brown. Your install crew is led by Production Manager Steve Dean. Your post-install warranty calls go to Production Coordinator Jessica Commodore. Repair work is led by Foreman Jesus Luna. We do not subcontract sales or installation. If a name on our process page shows up at your door, they work for JDH.
What is the PCC Method and why does JDH use it? +
PCC stands for Problem, Cause, Consequence. Every issue we document on your roof or exterior gets answered in those three dimensions: what we're actually seeing, why it's happening, and what happens if you do nothing about it. The customer-facing version of the PCC report is what we call your Digital Analysis. We use PCC because homeowners expect contractors to walk the property and write a number. PCC forces our inspectors to diagnose before they quote, which is the difference between a repair that lasts and a repair that has to be redone in eighteen months. See our 10-step process for how PCC fits into a full project.
How much does a JDH inspection cost? +
Free for homeowners scheduling an inspection on their own property. There is no charge for the inspection, the Digital Analysis, or the estimate. No obligation to buy anything from us afterward. We take this approach because we'd rather build a relationship with a homeowner who's two years away from needing a new roof than push someone into a project they don't need right now. Schedule a free inspection when you're ready.
What materials and brands does JDH install? +
One vetted brand per trade. Roofing and insulation: Owens Corning. Siding: James Hardie and ProVia. Windows and doors: ProVia. Gutters: Leaf Relief by Ply Gem. Skylights: VELUX. We carry top-tier installer certifications with each brand (Owens Corning Platinum Preferred, James Hardie Elite Preferred, ProVia Authorized, VELUX No Leak Skylight Specialist). That unlocks the longest warranty terms each manufacturer offers, and it limits how many SKUs our crews have to know. That's how installs stay consistent across hundreds of jobs a year.
Does JDH handle insurance claims for storm damage? +
Yes. Jim's HAAG Master Certified credential (#992109047) is the standard insurance adjusters use, so his findings carry weight in the claim file. We document storm damage with the same forensic protocol an adjuster uses, meet your adjuster on-site if it helps, and write the scope in language that maps cleanly to your carrier's expected line items. You don't pay anything extra for this, it's part of the JDH inspection. If you suspect storm damage but aren't sure, use our Storm Damage Risk Check tool to see if your address took a hailstorm or high-wind event in the last few years.
Does JDH offer financing? +
Yes, through Service Finance Company. Rate, term, and monthly-payment options are walked on-site so you can decide what fits your budget without leaving the kitchen table. We offer financing for full roof replacement, siding, windows, doors, gutters, and insulation projects. See the financing hub for trade-specific calculator estimates and the lender comparison.
What's covered under the JDH warranty? +
JDH's 5-year transferable workmanship warranty is the baseline on every install. Manufacturer-extended warranties stack on top when you take the full system: Owens Corning Platinum Protection (50-year non-prorated on roofing, 25-year workmanship), James Hardie HZ5 (30-year substrate + 15-year ColorPlus finish), ProVia Lifetime + Super Spacer accidental glass coverage on windows, VELUX No Leak (10-year install + 20-year glass + 10-year product), and Leaf Relief 25-year no-clog. If you ever need to file a claim, call our office: Jessica Commodore takes the call, Steve Dean visits on-site within 2 business days, and if it's covered, Jesus Luna leads the repair. No charge. See the full warranty terms.
Can I see examples of JDH's past projects? +
Yes. Our roofing project gallery has 28 real before/after pairs and finished installs across Waldorf, Annapolis, Prince Frederick, Chesapeake Beach, Leonardtown, Dunkirk, Great Mills, Lusby, St. Leonard, Mechanicsville, and more. Sibling galleries for siding, windows, doors, gutters, and insulation are being built out through the rest of 2026. You can also see customer voices directly on our reviews page: 1,400+ verified reviews across Google, BBB, Facebook, Houzz, and Angi at a 4.9-star aggregate.
Does JDH offer emergency services? +
Yes. Active leaks, storm damage, and tarp situations get same-day or next-day response. Call the office and tell us you have an emergency: scheduling drops everything else to get an inspector to you. See our emergency roof repair page for what we can do in the first 24 hours.
How do I schedule a JDH inspection? +
Three ways: call (443) 241-7356, use the free inspection form on our site, or message us through the lead form at the bottom of any project page. A real person answers the phone (no phone tree), confirms what you're looking at, and books your inspection inside a few days. Typical end-to-end timeline from first call to completed install is 1 to 2 weeks for in-stock OC Duration colors.
