The difference between step-flashing and counter-flashing
A permanent chimney seal requires a two-part mechanical system. Step-flashing consists of individual L-shaped metal pieces woven into each shingle course to protect the roof deck. Counter-flashing is the outer shield that is embedded into the Reglet Joint of the masonry.
