JDH Remodeling is a licensed Maryland and Virginia siding contractor. Family-owned since 1986, we install James Hardie fiber cement, ProVia insulated vinyl, vinyl siding, and stone veneer on new construction, full replacements, and targeted repairs. Siding installation runs $6.25 to $9.50 per square foot installed, with a typical 2,000 square foot home landing $12,500 to $19,000. Every install is backed by the manufacturer warranty plus JDH's 5-year workmanship warranty. MHIC #137491, Virginia Class A #2705192986, 1,400+ Google reviews at 4.9 stars.

Two siding brands. Chosen on purpose.
JDH does not carry every siding on the market. We install James Hardie and ProVia, exclusively, because we will not put siding on your house we would not put on our own. James Hardie Elite Preferred is the manufacturer's top contractor tier (a rare cert). ProVia Platinum spans our siding, door, and window installs. Two brands, one trusted system, lifetime warranties registered at install.
The top tier of James Hardie's contractor program. That cert is what unlocks the strongest manufacturer warranty coverage for your fiber cement siding.

Storm-rated sidingWhat happens from your first call to warranty registration
Every JDH siding project follows the same five-stage process. Click any stage to see what happens, who shows up, and what you should expect.
01 In-Home Consultation & Wall Measure +
A JDH Design Specialist comes to your home, measures every wall, checks the condition of the existing sheathing, looks for water damage and trim rot, and reviews soffit, fascia, and roof tie-in points. You will see James Hardie, ProVia, vinyl, and stone veneer samples in person, and pick colors against your roof and trim.
This visit is free and there is no obligation. If your existing siding has years of life left and just needs a targeted repair, we will tell you that.
02 Fixed-Price Quote & Material Selection +
Within a day or two you receive a written, fixed-price quote scoped to your exact walls: material (James Hardie, ProVia, vinyl, or stone veneer accents), color, removal of existing siding, sheathing repair allowance, house wrap, trim wrapping at windows and doors, soffit and fascia coordination, haul-away, and warranty registration. No surprise change orders.
You finalize material, color, profile (lap, board-and-batten, shingle), and any stone veneer accent locations. Most homeowners decide within a few days; some take a week to walk the colors in different light.
03 Manufacture & Permitting +
James Hardie ColorPlus orders go to the factory in your specific color. ProVia CedarMax is built to your spec. Material lead time is typically 2 to 4 weeks. While material is in production, JDH files any county permit your project requires. We know the staff at the Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, Prince George's, and St. Mary's permit offices.
04 Install Week +
A JDH crew removes the old siding, inspects the sheathing and repairs any rot, installs new Tyvek house wrap with sealed seams, integrates with window and door flashing, then installs the new James Hardie or ProVia material to manufacturer spec. Trim wrapping, soffit, fascia, and gutter tie-in finish the exterior. A typical full re-side is a one-week project depending on home size.
We do not subcontract installation. Every crew member is on JDH payroll, in JDH-branded shirts.
05 Final Walkthrough & Warranty Registration +
Before we leave, we walk the home with you, check every seam, every trim wrap, every J-channel transition, and answer any questions. JDH registers your James Hardie or ProVia warranty and activates your JDH 5-year workmanship warranty.
If anything is not right after we leave, our satisfaction guarantee puts someone back on site within 2 business days.
Four reasons we win on the quote, not the sales pitch
JDH does not knock doors, does not run high-pressure in-home pitches, and does not push a whole-house re-side when a targeted repair is the right answer. We win on a clean quote, two trusted brands, and three generations of Maryland and Virginia exterior work. Here is what that means for your siding.
James Hardie Elite Preferred
JDH installs James Hardie at the manufacturer's top contractor tier. Rare cert in Maryland and Virginia. That tier unlocks the strongest manufacturer warranty coverage for your fiber cement siding.
39 Years, Family-Owned
Founded in 1986. Three generations of the Dodson family. Thousands of Maryland and Virginia exterior projects across Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, Prince George's, St. Mary's, and the Fredericksburg area.
Licensed in Both States
Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986, both verifiable on the state licensing portals. Crews on JDH payroll, never subcontracted.
Sheathing & Wrap, Done Right
JDH inspects every wall under the old siding. Rotted sheathing gets replaced. New Tyvek house wrap and sealed seams go on before any new siding. Most contractors skip this. We do not.

What Maryland and Virginia homeowners say about JDH siding
"JDH replaced our 25-year-old vinyl siding with James Hardie. The crew pulled every panel, found and replaced some rotted sheathing under a window we didn't know about, wrapped the whole house in new Tyvek, and the result looks better than the day the house was built. Worth every dollar and the Elite Preferred warranty made the price competitive."
"Hail storm hit our siding hard and the insurance company was dragging. JDH met the adjuster on-site, took the photos and documentation himself, and the claim was approved within days. New ProVia CedarMax went on the next month. Process took the stress off entirely."
"We thought we needed a full re-side. JDH's inspector said only the south wall and a section of fascia were the real problem. They repaired what needed repair, replaced one wall's worth of siding to match, and saved us tens of thousands. Honest people doing honest work."

Siding Questions Maryland & Virginia Homeowners Ask
How much should a siding job cost?+
Siding installation runs $6.25 to $9.50 per square foot installed for a JDH project. That includes removal of the old siding, sheathing inspection and repair, new house wrap, trim wrapping, soffit and fascia coordination, haul-away, and warranty registration. For a typical 2,000 square foot home, most whole-house siding projects land between $12,500 and $19,000.
Material drives where you fall in the range: vinyl at the low end, ProVia CedarMax insulated vinyl in the middle, James Hardie fiber cement at the upper end. Stone veneer accents are priced separately per square foot. See our Maryland siding cost guide or Virginia siding cost guide for itemized examples.
How much is 2,000 square feet of siding?+
For a 2,000 square foot home in Maryland or Virginia, expect $12,500 to $19,000 fully installed. The low end is a vinyl re-side over sound sheathing. The high end is James Hardie ColorPlus fiber cement with sheathing repair, new house wrap, trim wrapping, and stone veneer accents at the entry.
Material choice and any structural repairs at the sheathing are the two biggest variables. JDH provides a detailed line-item quote so you can see exactly where the dollars are going.
How much is 3,000 square feet of siding?+
A 3,000 square foot home runs about $18,750 to $28,500 at JDH rates. That is the same per-square-foot range applied at a larger scale. Some economies of scale apply on labor for larger homes, but the material costs scale linearly.
Two-story homes with steep gables, dormers, and complex trim details cost slightly more per square foot than single-story rectangular homes because of the additional cuts, scaffolding, and trim wrapping required.
Is it cheaper to DIY or hire a siding contractor?+
For a full re-side, DIY saves on labor but the math rarely works out. Vinyl siding requires specific tools (snips, J-channel benders, level long enough to keep courses straight), proper flashing and house-wrap technique that decides whether the wall stays dry for 30 years or rots in 5, and the physical demand of working on ladders for a week.
James Hardie fiber cement is not a DIY material. Hardie planks are heavy, the dust is silicogenic (proper respirator and dust control required), the manufacturer warranty requires installation by a James Hardie certified contractor, and re-doing a Hardie install is expensive. JDH installs both as Elite Preferred. Small repairs are sometimes reasonable DIY; a re-side is not.
Can rain water get behind vinyl siding?+
Yes. Vinyl siding is intentionally a drainage plane, not a water barrier. Wind-driven rain gets behind the panels by design, runs down the back of the siding, and exits at the bottom J-channel and weep holes. What stops water from reaching the sheathing is the house wrap (Tyvek or equivalent) and the integrated flashing at every window, door, and penetration.
This is why JDH never re-sides over old, torn, or poorly-installed house wrap. We strip the old siding, inspect the wrap, and install fresh wrap with sealed seams before new siding goes on. The hidden layer is what makes a 40-year siding job versus a 10-year one.
What is the best time of year for siding work?+
Spring and fall are ideal for siding work in Maryland and Virginia. Moderate temperatures help vinyl panels seat properly (vinyl shrinks in cold and expands in heat, which affects how it locks together), and crews work efficiently without weather extremes. James Hardie fiber cement is less temperature-sensitive and installs year-round.
Off-season install (late fall, winter) often has shorter lead times and is fine for fiber cement. Hot July afternoons are the worst window for vinyl. JDH schedules per the material and weather forecast.
Does JDH repair siding, or only replace?+
JDH does both. For targeted damage (a few storm-damaged panels, a section pulled by a fallen tree limb, rotted trim, fascia repair), we do board-level repair. For homes where 30 percent or more of the siding has failed, faded, or been damaged, full replacement is more economical than chasing patches.
The Design Specialist tells you at the in-home consultation whether repair or replacement is right for your specific situation. We do not push a whole-house re-side when a targeted repair will solve the problem. See siding repair scope for details.
What siding brand does JDH install?+
JDH installs James Hardie and ProVia, exclusively. James Hardie fiber cement (HardiePlank, HardieShingle, HardiePanel, Board & Batten) with ColorPlus factory finish is our premium offering. ProVia CedarMax insulated vinyl is our insulated-vinyl line. ProVia and James Hardie are the only two brands we carry, because we will not put siding on your house we would not put on our own.
JDH is James Hardie Elite Preferred (the top contractor tier) and ProVia Platinum across siding, doors, and windows. See James Hardie scope or ProVia scope for details.
What does the JDH siding warranty cover?+
James Hardie carries a 30-year non-prorated material warranty plus a 15-year warranty on ColorPlus finish, with the strongest coverage available to Elite Preferred contractors. ProVia CedarMax carries a lifetime limited warranty on the vinyl panel. JDH registers both with the manufacturer at install.
JDH adds a 5-year workmanship warranty covering house wrap integrity, panel installation, trim wrapping, and any installation-traced water intrusion. Both warranties transfer to one subsequent homeowner.
How long does a full re-side take?+
A typical 2,000 to 2,500 square foot home is a one-week install once material is on site. The crew strips the old siding day one, inspects and repairs sheathing, installs new house wrap, then installs the new siding, trim, soffit, and fascia in sequence. Larger homes or homes with complex gables, dormers, and stone veneer accents can run a second week.
James Hardie material lead times (factory production) are typically 2 to 4 weeks. Vinyl material is usually in stock. JDH confirms the timeline at the quote.
Do you offer financing for siding?+
Yes. JDH partners with Foundation Finance, Service Finance, Hearth, and Synchrony for siding financing, with same-day pre-qualification and no impact to your credit score during the soft-pull check. Promotional and deferred-interest options are available for qualified Maryland and Virginia homeowners.
Financing makes a whole-house re-side practical without draining a savings account, and pairing siding financing with new windows or roofing on one plan often unlocks better terms. See siding financing options for terms and lender details.
Are you licensed in both Maryland and Virginia?+
Yes. JDH carries Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986. Both are verifiable on the state licensing portals: the Maryland DLLR portal for MHIC and the Virginia DPOR portal for Class A. We have been licensed and family-owned since 1986.
