Roofing Warranty Coverage in Maryland & Virginia

JDH's roofing warranty is two stacked warranties. JDH covers installation workmanship for 5 years from the install completion date - flashing, fastening, deck preparation, underlayment, sealing, ridge cap, drip edge. Both warranties transfer to a new homeowner if you sell the property. On qualifying OC Platinum installs, the Owens Corning Platinum Protection Limited Lifetime Warranty layers on top of JDH's 5-year - adding non-prorated lifetime material coverage and 25 years of manufacturer-backed workmanship. JDH owns the first 5 years of claims regardless of which warranty applies.

5 years from the install completion date, transferable to a new homeowner if you sell. The clock starts the last day JDH's crew performed work on the project - independent of final payment, final inspection, or post-install paperwork. Industry typical is 1 to 2 years non-transferable; JDH's 5-year transferable in-house warranty is among the strongest workmanship terms a Maryland or Virginia roofing contractor offers. If JDH performs a covered repair during the 5-year window, that repair is covered for the remainder of the original window (the clock does not restart).

OC Platinum Protection is Owens Corning's highest-tier system warranty. It includes lifetime, non-prorated material coverage for the original homeowner and 25 years of non-prorated manufacturer-backed workmanship, then prorated for the remainder of original-owner ownership. The warranty is only issuable through Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractors (JDH qualifies). To activate, the roof must be installed with at least 4 qualifying Owens Corning components - shingles, underlayment, starter, hip and ridge, ventilation, or ice and water barrier. JDH registers the warranty on the homeowner's behalf.

Yes. The JDH 5-year workmanship warranty transfers in full to a subsequent homeowner for the remainder of the coverage period - no paperwork, no fee. We document the install in a file the buyer's home inspector can verify. The Owens Corning Platinum warranty also transfers once to a subsequent owner; the transferred coverage converts from Lifetime to a fixed-term remaining period (per OC's published terms). Both transfers happen automatically with the property; the seller simply hands over the install paperwork and warranty document.

You can send photos or videos to speed the evaluation (optional). Steve Dean, JDH's Production Manager, inspects the roof on-site within 2 business days and confirms whether the issue is covered. If covered, Jesus performs the repair at no charge - most repairs completed within 7 days of confirmation. For the first 5 years after install, JDH owns the claim regardless of which warranty technically applies; if the cause is a manufacturer material defect, JDH files the Owens Corning claim on your behalf.

The most common voiders: third-party penetrations after JDH's install (solar, satellite, HVAC, chimney mason) - though JDH offers a free post-third-party-work inspection to restore coverage; pressure-washing or walking on the roof outside of professional maintenance; unauthorized modifications or repairs by another contractor; substitution of non-OC components on an OC Platinum system; and homeowner-installed satellite dishes or rooftop equipment. Notably, missed routine maintenance (gutter cleaning, debris removal) does NOT void JDH's workmanship warranty - JDH explicitly rejects that denial mechanism. Acts of God (wind beyond manufacturer rating, hail, lightning, tree-strike) are excluded but route to insurance + manufacturer storm riders where elected.

No. Acts of God - wind beyond the manufacturer's wind rating, hail, lightning, tree-strike, falling debris - are not covered by either the JDH workmanship warranty or the standard OC Platinum Protection material warranty. Storm damage routes to homeowner's insurance. When the customer elected an OC storm rider at install (wind/hail upgrade), the rider covers the material side of storm damage; insurance still covers labor and ancillary damage. Exception: if a storm event reveals an underlying installation defect (shingles uplifted because they were under-nailed, etc.), the installation defect itself remains covered under JDH's workmanship warranty.
