Every roof JDH installs is an Owens Corning Duration system, full stop. We carry the Platinum Preferred Contractor designation, the highest tier in the Owens Corning installer program. That tier is contingent on installing the full OC system (shingle + underlayment + flashing + ventilation matched), which is what activates the 50-year non-prorated Platinum Protection Warranty. Substitute any single component with a generic brand and the warranty drops to a 10-year manufacturer-only basis.
Three things the Platinum Preferred designation actually requires of JDH:
- Whole-system install only. Every job uses OC Duration architectural shingles plus OC underlayment plus OC flashing accessories plus an OC-spec balanced ventilation calculation. Substituting a single component disqualifies the install from the Platinum warranty.
- OC factory training renewed annually. Crew leads complete the OC University curriculum each year. The credential isn't transferable; if the trained installer leaves, the next install is supervised by a current cert-holder.
- Independent customer-satisfaction audits. OC pulls a sample of JDH customer reviews quarterly. Drop below the threshold for two quarters and the designation is revoked.
Where the warranty math gets real
A budget-tier asphalt shingle install carries either a manufacturer-only warranty (typically 10 years material-only, prorated) or a contractor-only workmanship warranty (typically 1 to 5 years). When the inevitable issue surfaces at year 8 to 15, the homeowner has no manufacturer recourse and the contractor is often out of business or out of the trade.
The Platinum Protection Warranty is non-prorated for the full 50 years, transferable to a new owner once, and JDH installs it on every Duration system. The warranty registration happens on JDH's Owens Corning account, so we retain liability if anything fails.
What gets stripped from a budget asphalt install. And why JDH installs the whole OC system.
A $3,999 asphalt roof in Maryland is almost always one of these corners being cut. Each one quietly voids either the Owens Corning Platinum warranty or the shingle manufacturer warranty (or both).
