Why JDH Installs ProVia Doors

One door brand. Chosen on purpose.

JDH does not carry every door on the market. We install ProVia, exclusively, because we will not put a door on your house we would not put on our own. As a ProVia Platinum contractor, JDH installs at the top tier of ProVia's certification program, and we register every warranty on your behalf at the time of installation.

ProVia Platinum
Top-Tier Certification

JDH installs at ProVia's highest contractor tier. That certification is what unlocks ProVia's strongest warranty coverage for your doors.

The JDH Door Process

What happens from your first call to warranty registration

Every JDH door project follows the same five-stage process. Click any stage to see what happens, who shows up, and what you should expect.

01 In-Home Consultation & Exact Measure +

A JDH Design Specialist comes to your home, measures the door opening, and checks the condition of the frame, threshold, sill, and surrounding trim. You will see ProVia door styles, glass inserts, sidelight options, finishes, and hardware in person, and we will tell you whether a slab swap is enough or whether the full frame needs to come out.

This visit is free and there is no obligation. If your door is not ready to be replaced yet, we will tell you that.

02 Fixed-Price Quote & ProVia Selection +

Within a day or two you receive a written, fixed-price quote scoped to your exact door: ProVia door, frame replacement if needed, weatherstripping and threshold seal, exterior trim and aluminum capping, interior casing, hardware, haul-away of the old door, and warranty registration. No per-door gimmicks, no surprise change orders.

You finalize your door style, slab material (fiberglass, steel, or wood), finish, glass insert, hardware, and any sidelights or transoms. Most homeowners decide within a few days; some take a week to compare. There is no pressure either way.

03 Custom Manufacture & Permitting +

ProVia builds your door to the exact measurements from your home. Custom manufacture typically takes a few weeks. While the door is in production, JDH files any county permit your project requires. We know the staff at the Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, Prince George's, and St. Mary's permit offices.

04 Install Day +

A JDH crew removes the old door, replaces the frame if the existing one is rotted or out of square, sets and levels the new ProVia unit, installs new weatherstripping and threshold seal, finishes the exterior aluminum capping and interior trim, and installs the hardware. A single entry door is typically a one-day install. A patio or sliding glass door, or a door with sidelights and transom, can run a second day.

We do not subcontract installation. Every crew member is on JDH payroll, in JDH-branded shirts.

05 Final Walkthrough & Warranty Registration +

Before we leave, we walk the door with you, check that it opens, closes, latches, and locks correctly, and answer any questions. JDH registers your ProVia lifetime limited warranty and activates your JDH 5-year workmanship warranty.

If anything is not right after we leave, our satisfaction guarantee puts someone back on site within 2 business days.

Why Maryland Homeowners Choose JDH for Doors

Four reasons we win on the quote, not the sales pitch

JDH does not knock doors, does not run high-pressure in-home pitches, and does not push a whole-house project when one tired entry is the real problem. We win on a clean quote, a single trusted brand, and three generations of Maryland and Virginia exterior work. Here is what that means for your doors.

01

ProVia Platinum Contractor

JDH installs ProVia doors at the top tier of ProVia's certification program. One trusted brand, custom-built to your opening, with the lifetime limited warranty that tier unlocks.

02

39 Years, Family-Owned

Founded in 1986. Three generations of the Dodson family. Thousands of Maryland and Virginia exterior projects across Calvert, Anne Arundel, Charles, Prince George's, St. Mary's, and the Fredericksburg area.

03

Licensed in Both States

Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986, both verifiable on the state licensing portals. Crews on JDH payroll, never subcontracted.

04

Honest, Diagnostic Approach

JDH recommends what your home actually needs. We do not do glass repair or weatherstripping touch-ups; we install full door replacements and we will tell you if yours is not ready to be replaced yet instead of selling you a project you do not need.

Frequently Asked

Door Questions Maryland & Virginia Homeowners Ask

What is the average cost to replace an exterior door?+

Exterior door replacement runs $3,500 to $12,000 per door installed for a ProVia custom entry door. That price includes precise measurement, custom factory manufacture, professional installation, weatherstripping and threshold seal, exterior aluminum capping and interior trim, hardware, haul-away of the old door, and warranty registration.

Where you fall in that range depends on slab material (fiberglass, steel, or wood), size, glass package, sidelights and transoms, and hardware. A standard fiberglass entry sits at the lower end; a full entry system with sidelights, a transom, decorative leaded glass, and multi-point locks lands at the higher end. See our Maryland door cost guide or Virginia door cost guide for itemized examples.

Can you just swap out an exterior door without replacing the frame?+

Sometimes. If the existing frame is square, dry, free of rot, and properly anchored, a slab-only swap is possible and saves both time and money. If the frame is out of square, has rotted sill or jamb wood, or was poorly anchored to the rough opening, replacing the slab alone will not solve drafts, latching problems, or water intrusion.

At the in-home consultation, the JDH Design Specialist tests the frame, threshold, and sill, and recommends a slab swap or a full frame replacement based on what you actually have. We do not upsell a full system if the existing frame is good.

How much does Home Depot or Lowe's charge to install an exterior door?+

Big-box door pricing varies widely because the store is a middleman: it sells the door, then assigns a subcontracted installer whose crew you do not meet until install day. Quoted installed prices commonly land anywhere from a few hundred dollars (for an interior or basic slab swap) to well over $3,000 per exterior door, depending on brand, size, and the local subcontractor.

JDH is not a middleman. We install one brand, ProVia, with our own crews on JDH payroll, at $3,500 to $12,000 per entry door installed. You meet your Design Specialist at the quote and the same company stands behind the 5-year workmanship warranty.

Does JDH repair doors, or only replace them?+

JDH installs replacement and new doors. We do not do hinge tightening, weatherstripping touch-ups, or glass repair as standalone services. If a door is drafty, dented, rotting, out of square, or refuses to latch, full replacement with a new ProVia unit is the lasting fix, and it is what we do.

That said, we are not going to talk you into a door replacement you do not need. If your door has years of life left and just needs a service touch-up from a handyman, the Design Specialist will tell you that at the free in-home consultation. Honest assessment first, quote second.

Fiberglass vs. steel entry doors: which is better for Maryland homes?+

Both work in Maryland and Virginia. The trade-off is appearance versus security. Fiberglass holds paint and stain finishes longer than steel, mimics the look and grain of wood, will not rust or dent, and is the most popular pick among JDH customers. Steel is the strongest security option, takes a perfectly smooth paint finish, and costs slightly less for a given size.

For most Maryland and Virginia homes, ProVia fiberglass is the right answer; for homes prioritizing maximum security or a sharp painted look, ProVia steel makes sense. See our fiberglass vs. steel entry doors guide for the full comparison.

How long does exterior door replacement take?+

There are two timelines. First, custom manufacture: because every ProVia door is built to your exact opening, production typically takes a few weeks after you approve the order. Second, installation: once the door arrives, a single entry door is typically a one-day install. A patio or sliding glass door, or an entry with sidelights and a transom, can run a second day.

The opening itself is only exposed for a few hours during the swap. The crew protects the floors and the threshold, removes the old door, sets the new ProVia unit, seals the perimeter, and finishes the trim, all in a single day on a standard entry.

What door brand does JDH install?+

JDH installs ProVia doors, exclusively. We are a ProVia Platinum contractor, the top tier of ProVia's certification program. We carry one brand on purpose: it lets our crews master a single product, and it means every door on your house carries the same warranty from the same manufacturer.

The line we install most across Maryland and Virginia is the ProVia Signet fiberglass collection for entry doors. See the ProVia doors page for the full lineup.

What does the ProVia door warranty cover?+

Every ProVia entry door JDH installs carries a lifetime limited warranty covering the door slab, frame, weatherstripping, and hardware for as long as you own your home, with no proration on the structural components. Factory-applied finishes carry a limited warranty against cracking and peeling, and decorative glass inserts are covered against seal failure.

On top of the manufacturer warranty, JDH backs the installation with a 5-year workmanship warranty covering air infiltration, water leaks at the frame, and operation issues traced to how the door was installed. Both warranties transfer to one subsequent homeowner. JDH registers your ProVia warranty at the time of installation.

Are ProVia doors energy efficient?+

Yes. ProVia entry, patio, and sliding glass doors are available in ENERGY STAR qualified packages with polyurethane foam cores, magnetic weatherstripping, and Low-E insulating glass on glazed units. Every ENERGY STAR door is rated by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) so you can compare U-factor and air-leakage values on the label.

For Maryland and Virginia's mixed climate, the Design Specialist will recommend a slab type and glass package suited to your home's exposure. Replacing an old, drafty, or hollow-core entry door is one of the more reliable ways to cut drafts at the entry and trim energy bills.

Do you install sliding glass doors and patio doors?+

Yes. JDH installs ProVia sliding glass doors and French patio doors in addition to entry and storm doors. Sliding glass doors use Low-E insulated glass, smooth roller hardware, and multi-point locks. French patio doors offer the classic side-hinged double-door look, with the same energy-efficient sealed glass and weatherstripping.

Patio and sliding door pricing is separate from entry door pricing and depends on size, glass package, and hardware. See sliding glass and patio door options for details.

Do you offer financing for doors?+

Yes. JDH partners with Foundation Finance, Service Finance, Hearth, and Synchrony for door financing, with same-day pre-qualification and no impact to your credit score during the soft-pull check. Promotional and deferred-interest options are available for qualified Maryland and Virginia homeowners.

Financing makes it practical to replace a tired entry door, add a storm door, and upgrade a patio door in one project, or to pair door financing with new windows or siding on a single plan. See door financing options for terms and lender details.

Are you licensed in both Maryland and Virginia?+

Yes. JDH carries Maryland MHIC #137491 and Virginia Class A contractor license #2705192986. Both are verifiable on the state licensing portals: the Maryland DLLR portal for MHIC and the Virginia DPOR portal for Class A. We have been licensed and family-owned since 1986.
