Sometimes. If the existing frame is square, dry, free of rot, and properly anchored, a slab-only swap is possible and saves both time and money. If the frame is out of square, has rotted sill or jamb wood, or was poorly anchored to the rough opening, replacing the slab alone will not solve drafts, latching problems, or water intrusion.

At the in-home consultation, the JDH Design Specialist tests the frame, threshold, and sill, and recommends a slab swap or a full frame replacement based on what you actually have. We do not upsell a full system if the existing frame is good.

Big-box door pricing varies widely because the store is a middleman: it sells the door, then assigns a subcontracted installer whose crew you do not meet until install day. Quoted installed prices commonly land anywhere from a few hundred dollars (for an interior or basic slab swap) to well over $3,000 per exterior door, depending on brand, size, and the local subcontractor.

JDH is not a middleman. We install one brand, ProVia, with our own crews on JDH payroll, at $3,500 to $12,000 per entry door installed. You meet your Design Specialist at the quote and the same company stands behind the 5-year workmanship warranty.

JDH installs replacement and new doors. We do not do hinge tightening, weatherstripping touch-ups, or glass repair as standalone services. If a door is drafty, dented, rotting, out of square, or refuses to latch, full replacement with a new ProVia unit is the lasting fix, and it is what we do.

That said, we are not going to talk you into a door replacement you do not need. If your door has years of life left and just needs a service touch-up from a handyman, the Design Specialist will tell you that at the free in-home consultation. Honest assessment first, quote second.

Both work in Maryland and Virginia. The trade-off is appearance versus security. Fiberglass holds paint and stain finishes longer than steel, mimics the look and grain of wood, will not rust or dent, and is the most popular pick among JDH customers. Second, installation: once the door arrives, a single entry door is typically a one-day install. A patio or sliding glass door, or an entry with sidelights and a transom, can run a second day.
